Project Overview
When MMC acquired Nera, the transition came with a unique challenge: clearing out Marble Arch House in London’s vibrant West End. This one-floor property, which Nera previously occupied, needed to be emptied of its legacy furniture in preparation for the landlord’s handover. MMC decided to relocate Nera’s staff to another building, allocating the Renovo team to take the reins on managing the furniture removal. The task required a comprehensive audit and well-coordinated clearing process to meet the tight deadlines.
Scope and Services
The operation kicked off with a detailed two-day furniture audit in April 2024, laying the groundwork for a smooth removal process. With the building handover to the landlord set for July 2024, planning began in earnest mid-June. Collaborating closely with the client and their professional team, we ensured seamless coordination across all stakeholders.
Key milestones of the project included:
• Day 1: Staff moved out of the property.
• Days 2-3: Furniture was removed, including items for resale, donation, or recycling.
• Day 4: The property was handed over to the landlord.
We held three focused planning meetings with the client’s project manager and other suppliers to streamline activities and prevent any overlap. By thoroughly surveying the area and cataloguing the furniture inventory, we offered practical solutions for its management, all while aligning with the client’s sustainability goals.
Determined to minimise the project’s impact, we minimised waste and maximised the reuse of furniture:
- Resale: High-quality task chairs were sold, with the proceeds offsetting the overall project costs.
- Donation: A significant portion of the furniture, including sofas, armchairs, meeting tables, chairs, whiteboards, bookshelves, and storage cabinets, was donated to two schools via our charity partner, Business2Schools. The donation process was carefully coordinated so the furniture went directly from Marble Arch House to the schools, eliminating the need for intermediate storage.
- Recycling: Any remaining furniture that could not be resold or donated was responsibly recycled.
This approach ensured that the furniture removal had an immediate and positive impact, particularly for the schools, and reduced the project’s environmental footprint.
Success Points
Thanks to early engagement and precise coordination, the project was a resounding success. Key achievements included:
• Recycling: Any remaining furniture that could not be resold or donated was responsibly recycled.
• Removing all furniture efficiently and responsibly.
• Leaving the property clean and tidy, with all fixed cupboards emptied and checked.
• Successfully handing over the property to the landlord on schedule.
• Ensuring a sustainable approach by prioritising resale, donation, and recycling to minimise waste.
